Compact SUVs
Chevrolet Trax
Chevrolet Trailblazer
GMC Terrain
Chevrolet Equinox
Chevrolet Equinox EV
Compact SUVs comprise an extremely popular segment, which is why there are so many to choose from here. One of the first things to notice is how similar the Terrain and Equinox are in size. The two are built on the same platform, but offer different styling and trim levels. The shared platform means that you can choose one over the other simply because you prefer the styling, and not have to sacrifice interior space for it. This won’t be the last pair of SUVs you see like this. For the Trax and Trailblazer, we again see similar sizes, but here both are Chevrolet vehicles. Some of the differences are purely cosmetic, but the Trailblazer is aimed more at offroading, with a wide range of available offroading equipment to go with it. The Trax is aimed more at on-road driving, which comes with a lower starting price. Lastly, there is the Equinox EV. Despite the shared name, the Equinox and Equinox EV have slightly different dimensions. That’s because the two aren’t built on the same platform, but are still close enough in size and the roll they perform that Chevrolet gave them the same name.
Midsize SUVs
Chevrolet Blazer
GMC Acadia
Chevrolet Traverse
Versatility is the name of the game with midsize SUVs, big enough to offer three rows of seating, but also small enough to offer a sporty feel. You can once again see here that the Acadia and Traverse are very similar in size, but nonetheless there are some important differences, particularly the extra seat that you get in the Traverse. Styling and interior layout are noticeably different, but with such similar dimensions, it will again mostly come down to personal preference when choosing between them. The Blazer, though still classified as a midsize SUV, is noticeably smaller than the other two, with two rows of seats instead of three. That’s because the emphasis for the Blazer is on performance, not to mention a healthy dose of style. It is still a highly versatile and practical vehicle, but the smaller size allows for better maneuverability, always important in a performance vehicle.
Full-Size SUVs
GMC Yukon
Chevrolet Tahoe
GMC Yukon XL
Chevrolet Suburban
GMC Hummer EV
Sturdy body-on-frame construction and a lineup of powerful engines make the Tahoe, Suburban, and both versions of the Yukon extremely popular for offroad work and towing. But it’s the huge interior space that really drives the popularity of these vehicles, with room for adults in all three rows of seats. For passengers, there isn’t much difference between these vehicles, at least in terms of space. Equipment is different, depending on whether you go with GMC or Chevrolet, but the passenger dimensions are the same. Cargo space comes in two configurations, with the Yukon XL and Suburban offering a longer body with more cargo space in the back. With the seats folded down, the Yukon and Tahoe still offer enormous cargo capacity, but the larger versions give you a lot of cargo space even with the seats upright.
Lastly, there is the Hummer EV. This is GM’s halo electric vehicle, and it produces a truly incredible amount of power. To go with this, it also has a huge interior. Though there is no third row of seats, you can load up all five seats in the Hummer EV and nobody will complain about being cramped.
