About the GMC Yukon
There are SUVs and then there are SUVs. There are those built to be tough and handle whatever you throw at them and then there are the ones that simply try to look the part. With its body-on-frame construction and standard V8 engine, the GMC Yukon will absolutely walk the walk. Excellent towing capacity and two dedicated off-road trims mean that you can take whatever cargo you need wherever you need it. With a variety of seating configurations and seating for up to 9, you can take the whole family (and then some) with you as well. For those who need even more cargo space there is the Yukon XL, a version with a ton of extra space behind the third row of seats. The Yukon XL is even offered in all the same trims as the standard Yukon. On top of all that functionality, the Yukon is incredibly comfortable with the available Denali and Denali Ultimate pushing the Yukon well into luxury vehicle territory.
What The Critics Say
“Backed by a set of powerful engines, the Yukon is designed to move people and cargo with ease and comfort. Truck-based SUVs like the Yukon are particularly useful for towing and hauling, areas where more popular car-based crossovers can struggle. That’s no issue for the Yukon and its available turbocharged diesel engine and two available V8s.” — Edmunds
“Drivers looking for an old-school, full-size SUV with modern niceties will be interested in the rugged and refined GMC Yukon. It continues to be a family SUV with truck-like towing capabilities. With the latest redesign, it has greater interior space, improved driving manners, and more variety in its model range.” — Kelley Blue Book
What’s New For 2025
There have been some major changes to the GMC Yukon for 2025 and you can tell just by looking at it. That’s because there has been a redesign with an overall updated look that includes a new grille and the new available 24-inch wheels. Trims have been reorganized, with the popular AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate remaining but the new base trim is known as the Elevation. A new AT4 Ultimate trim has been added as well which combines the offroad capabilities of the AT4 with more of the luxury features that would otherwise require you to opt for one of the Denali trims. Lastly, the available Duramax® Turbo Diesel engine received a noticeable bump in power, something those looking to use the Yukon for towing will appreciate.
GMC Yukon Features
Effortless Capability
With its standard V8 engine, the GMC Yukon in any form excels at whatever you need it to. Even the base model has a towing capacity of 8,400 pounds. That base model comes with a 5.3-liter V8 that produces 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Available with the AT4 or standard on the AT4 Ultimate and both Denali trims is a 6.2-liter V8 that produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. For those who plan on doing a lot of towing, there is a 3.0-liter Duramax® Turbo Diesel engine which produces 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque for a more fuel-efficient way to haul over long distances. If you’re looking to go off-road, the AT4 and AT4 Ultimate trims give the Yukon a new level of capability with skid plates, an Autotrac® 2-speed transfer case, all-terrain tires, and a reworked front fascia that gives these trims a steep approach angle. There is also available air ride suspension. This is standard on the Denali Ultimate and AT4 Ultimate, providing both a smooth ride on or off the road and extra ground clearance for negotiating obstacles.
Luxurious Interior
It is the interior where the GMC Yukon really sets itself apart from the Chevrolet Tahoe, with which it shares a platform. The interior is big, really big. Headroom, hip room, leg room are plentiful and no matter which row you’re measuring, the Yukon really lets everyone stretch out. When we say everyone, we mean the up to 8 full-gown adults that can comfortably sit in the Yukon. Up to 16-way power seats and full grain leather upholstery are available and the available premium Bose® stereo is available with headrest speakers even for the 2nd-row seats. There is an available dual-pane panoramic power sunroof to let in tons of natural light. To keep 2nd-row passengers entertained, there are available 12.6-inch HD touchscreens as part of the Rear Seat Media System. Naturally, the Yukon is Wi-Fi hotspot capable with lots of charging ports throughout the cabin to keep everyone entertained.
Cutting-Edge Technology
Whatever you need to use your Yukon for, GMC has included technology that makes it easier. Even if it’s just listening to music, the Yukon comes with standard wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto along with a massive 16.8-inch diagonal infotainment system with available Google built-in to make using it extremely easy. There is extensive trailering tech available on the Yukon, a level you would probably associate more with a full-size pickup than an SUV. Since the Yukon has a higher towing capacity than some full-size trucks, this makes plenty of sense. There is extensive safety tech as well including a massive 15-inch head-up display, standard on both Denali trims, that allows you to monitor your speed and navigation directions without taking your eyes off the road. For the first time ever on a GMC, the Yukon is available with Night Vision. Also available is Super Cruise, GM’s highly advanced semi-autonomous version of cruise control which lets you take your hands off the wheel on compatible highways. Even if you don’t opt for this revolutionary feature, adaptive cruise control is also an option on all trims.
