What the Critics Say

“The GMC’s bed is big, with tie-downs galore, and the bed steps are useful. On top of that, it has an exclusive MultiPro tailgate, which opens in six different configurations. Top Sierra trims come standard with a brake controller, trailer camera angles that help you get hitched, and memory settings for various trailer configurations.” — Edmunds

“The GMC Sierra 1500 is a desirable full-size truck for drivers looking for a reliable workhorse, a luxurious highway cruiser, or just about anything in between.” — Kelley Blue Book

What’s New for 2024

Most changes for 2024 have been mild, there are a couple of new wheel options and paint colors. But there is one big change, and that is the standard engine for the AT4X is now the same 3.0-liter diesel engine that you find in the AT4. The diesel produces more torque than the 6.2-liter gasoline V8 found in last year’s AT4X, and this is likely to be the reason behind the switch. The bigger V8 is still standard for the on-road Denali Ultimate, and if you really had your heart set on it for your AT4X, it’s still available as an option.

Silverado 1500 Features

GMC Sierra 1500 Offroad

Serious Performance

GMC offers a choice of four different incredibly capable engines for the Sierra 1500. The base turbocharged 2.7-liter engine offers more horsepower and significantly more torque than the base engines in either the Ford F-150 or the Ram 1500. Not only that, but as competitors are dropping diesel engines from their lineup, the Sierra still offers a 3.0-liter Duramax power plant that’s perfect for your more demanding towing needs. Offroad enthusiasts can opt for the AT4, a trim that comes with a number of offroad-specific touches, including a 2-inch suspension lift, and offroad tires. Moving up to the AT4X adds even more offroad equipment, as well as a better-equipped interior. For the ultimate in horsepower, there is a 6.2-liter V8, which is standard in the Denali Ultimate, that produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.

GMC Sierra Tailgate

Unrivaled Versatility

Four different engine options, three cab options, three bed lengths, and eight distinct trims all add up to a truck that can be dialed in exactly how you need it. Whichever bed you choose, it will give you more space than competitors, and this is especially important when it comes to the short bed, which offers the most space of any short bed in this segment. You also get side steps, and a MultiPro tailgate, which can be configured in six different ways. This really allows you to make the most of your cargo space, and a 13,000-pound towing capacity means that you can bring a whole lot more with you, and the in-vehicle trailering app makes that towing a lot easier. You can also opt for chrome external accents, and wheels up to 22 inches, for a visual flair that sets the Sierra 1500 apart from the pack.

GMC Sierra 1500 Interior

Luxury Interior

The thing that sets the Sierra 1500 apart from the rest of the pickups on the market is its luxury interior. The open-pore wood trim and soft leather upholstery might make you forget you’re in something as utilitarian as a pickup truck. Settle into the available heated and ventilated 16-way power front seats with massage, turn on the available Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance, and watch the highway miles just melt away. Turn on the available 12-speaker Bose® Premium Series surround sound system with the available 13.4-inch center touchscreen and let your favorite tunes come through with amazing clarity.
